Migration to 1.5.X from 1.0.X

Just the other day a company posted a request for quote to migrate their corporate website from 1.0.X to 1.5.X in the "Professional Services" section of the forum at the Joomla! website. He starts by saying, "I understand its only a 20 minute job for someone who knows what they're doing."

Here are some of the "provided that"s which have to be true for that migration to be a "20 minute job". As I think of more, I'll post them.

• Server environment must meet minimums for Joomla 1.5
• 1.0.X site must be using a template which will successfully run in 1.5.X in legacy mode (some will, most won't).
• 1.0.X site must contain only extensions which:
• run in legacy mode on 1.5.X, OR
• have a 1.5.X native version available, using the same database tables if any.

It doesn't take long to type it out, but in the forty or so sites I have migrated or helped to migrate, I have yet to see one that met ALL of those conditions. If you have a site on Joomla! 1.0.X, you know already that you should be migrating it. Support for 1.0.X ends in 10 days.
